omg so my mil and fil had traded in their truck last week and got a new Camaro from carmax. everything was good until today. my mil took it to work and around her lunch time she was approched by the police and was told that since the car was new and no one had seen it before they ran the plates and serial number just to check and it came up stolen from 2015 and that there was 2 different plates on the car that were both stole too. they had to take the plates and told her she was lucky that it happened at her job and not while she was driving because she could of gotten arrest or worse. my fil and her were so kissed off they took the car back to carmax at explain what happened and demanded another car. they have them a rental car until the new car comes. apparently the reason that carmax didn't know it was stole was because it was on the police department's records but not San Diego police department's records.

if it was reported then it would've came up in any police department files, its all one system. they said that because they needed to sell.

the police had told my mil that because it was stole from a different city in California

I think carmax was just trying to cover their asses. As a professional car business they should do extensive background checks on any vehicle they're selling a person so things like this don't happen.

That's what I'm saying. apparently there was this one couple who had gotten a car there and the glove compartment had opened and there was him in there. I'm like they don't check the cars either?!
