It doesn't really hurt. Its just like a pinch basically. Its all the explaining they do beforehand that freaked me out... It was not painful at all. Just for about a minute my ears were ringing, I broke into a sweat on my entire body, felt super nauseous... and then it was smooth sailing after that!!!
For me I think if your in enough pain to want the epidural then it isn't as bad I was having a contraction when I got mine and I just wanted it in already it's more of a weird feeling then a pain I think .
They elevated the bed super high, you sit on the side of the bed with your legs hanging down and bend forward. There was a nurse there standing in front of me holding me up. They sterilize your back multiple times and ask you a million questions, explain that if so and so happens to tell them immediately, then it is like a pinch basically. It wasn't painful. It was just super OVERWHELMING the first minute, for lack of a better word.
It really is not as scary as is sounds. And like previously stated, if your in enough pain to want the epidural, that little pinch is nothing! I know it sounds scary having a needle in your spine but it really doesn't hurt.
It was very minimal pain like a pinch...my contractions were so much worse, the epidural was nothing compared to my contractions...try and get it early tho I only had mine for 2 hours and I was in labor for 16 hours so I went 14 hours with no epidural

@1sttimemommy2016, for me it was the worse part. I was in tears it hurt so bad. but my contractions hurt even worse.

the worse part was the cold stuff the used to clean the lines, it felt like a pinch honestly

the pressure was very uncomfortable. felt like a waterfall in my spine. didn't like it to much.
