Okay I need help making a decision!
I have bv and have been proscribed metronidazole the pill from my ob. The pharmacy told me straight up that it IS NOT recommended during pregnancy! I called to try and have it switched to the gel inserts, and my ob refused and did not give me a valid reson other than insurance. Even after I said my insurance DOES cover it! I am switching OB on Monday bc this is their second mess up. The first mistake was making me wait 6 days for my appointment to give me a rhogam shot after spotting! Which is ridiculous! Now my question is.....should I take this medicine? bc I know bv is harmful during pregnancy? or do you think I should hold off till Tuesday when I have a new doctor to give me something safer for my pregnancy? What would you do bc I am stuckkk! I know this antibiotic is harsh it turns me into a zombieeee. Can't sleep and feel like shit the whole time i'm on it! But I need this bv gone too?

I'm a nurse and I've seen doctors prescribe this medicine before for BV. There's no proven increase of chance of miscarriage or birth defects associated with taking the medication.

Lol. Download the Ovia app. It's awesome because you can look up foods and medicines to see if we are allowed to have them!
okay thank yall, I wish you girls would have seen my last post asking if it was safe lol @rainbow0601 @showersoverflowers
Pretty sure Flagyl is safe. It's on my approved medicines list. It's just a strong medicine and will prob make you feel kinda shitty. Always feel free to switch docs and get a second opinion, but Flagyl is safe
yeah they didnt say anything other than I need to take it. @showersoverflowers
Actually it is recommended that you take the oral medicine during pregnancy because it fights off the infection if it has spread. I have taken it in both pregnancies and during nursing and all was fine. I read the precautions and was super scared at first too. I called my ob freaking out. She took the time to fully explain and then I called and talked to another ob who explained it the exact same way. That's where your doctor went wrong. She should always be willing to educate. that's part of being a doctor
