well, one thing to consider is if you'll be breastfeeding or not.

if so, you'll want something that's either non-hormonal or progestin only. (specific pill, depo shot, normal/copper IUDs, the arm implant)

BCs that release estrogen can decrease milk supply.

I do hope to breastfeed, so what exactly are my options? @kaylabby22

the ones in the parentheses are progestin-only and recommended for breastfeeding. start researching now and develop your own opinions. one large factor for all of them boils down to your lifestyle and what you're looking for (length of efficiency, if you'll remember to take the pill, how many times to have to be administered the shot, etc). I'll most likely be going with Mirena (an IUD), simply because it fits my and my husband's lifestyle/plans more so than other options. also, i feel the side effects/potential menstrual changes are better for my body specifically versus other options. @ourlittlefamily0520

well, I want something that I wont have to remember to take, like the pill. A shot is an option. I also have to see what my insurance covers. @kaylabby22

yes! the good thing is though, the shot is administered at the doctor every few months. the implant is good for 3 years. and Mirena/copper IUDs can last 5 years or so if I remember correctly.

ultimately I would research hard though and look at side effects/read about other people's personal experiences with all of the options. @ourlittlefamily0520

@ourlittlefamily0520 and @kaylabby22 I want to point out Mirena is hormonal so if you are planing to breastfeed you can't have that one but you can have Paragaurd which is a copper IUD. My baby is ten days old today and a Paragaurd baby. It's supposed to be a rare thing but I know five people who have Paragaurd babies. I am not telling you to scare you but to let you know NOTHING is 100% effective. The one thing I loved about Paragaurd is it lasts for ten years. Being a non hormonal birth control it wasn't unsafe to get pregnant on it. I had it in the entire pregnancy and it didn't harm the baby at all. If you get pregnant with the Mirena the hormones could potentially hurt the baby. I used Mirena between my 12 year old and 8 year old. I LOVED it! My cycle went away. I didn't cramp. I didn't gain weight. It was perfect for me. I had it removed and was pregnant within a month. Other than getting pregnant on Paragaurd it was wonderful. I still had my cycle (which doesn't bother me at all), I didn't cramp, it wasn't a heavy cycle, everything remained the same with my body other than I had birth control around the clock. I don't know what I am going to use once it's time. I'm nervous to use the IUD again because I don't want two Paragaurd babies. Then again the chances are super low so I might go ahead with that one. This time I was able to say "he is my unplanned miracle baby" but if I got pregnant again on it I wouldn't be surprised.
