im torn this is my first i want to do it at home but i am nervous about having access to medical equipment. but i want a doula most likely for hospital so that the doc doesn't give me anything or do anything just to make the process faster for their convenience.i heard a doula can really helpwhen it comes to major desicions under pressure because i want a natural birth. @quea
@woahmama, yes a doula is perfect for being able to advocate for you and ensure you get everything you want when you aren't able to advocate for yourself. They are also great in helping support and coach you through labor. A doula works for you so she won't listen to the drs midwife, she listens to your wants. That's not to say that the hospital won't get mad or be really pushy if they feel like your wishes are inhumane such as not wanting to deliver on your back or not wanting an iv. Once they feel like you change the rules on them they get very nasty and they do pish u into whatever medical procedure they want. I have a doula and a doula only for my home birth. She isn't allowed to do anything medically such as check my cervix or baby's heart beat or anything during labor, but she's already taught me how to do all of that. She is just there to support me and let me know if there is anything going wrong and I need to transfer to a hospital or anything.

@woahmama, yes they don't wanna work hard to do anything. Laying on your back is the hardest position to deliver but it's easier for them. They don't want u to have a say so they want you to do what they say and when you don't its a problem. When I opted out of the glucose test my OB flipped saying my baby is gonna die and all kinds of crap even though I didn't fit any of the criteria. I left her and never went back

I have had a dula in both pregnancies an will with this one. same lady an we have this bond an grew close so she's more of a friend now. but she was so much help for me. she did everything in asked as well as took pictures an used her expertise to help.in pain an labor etc.
@woahmama, I am and I'm so excited. You get to advocate for yourself and birth in whatever position you feel comfortable. I'll be birthing in my birthing pool hopefully. I just want to be at peace, I was disturbed every few min at the hospital and didn't get to really enjoy the first few bonding moments with my daughter

I have one. Are you having a home birth or hospital birth? Their roles are a little different for both.
