No, it's not having your water broken mama. It's just separating the sac from the membrane. It can release hormones that helps send your body into labor. There are risks with everything. The risk is that yes there is a small chance of your water breaking. I have had 4 membrane sweeps,2 of them with my third pregnancy. I didn't go into labor, but i do think it helped get things going. Plus, i wasn't overdue already when i got them done.

@arivera64, are there any risks? Isn't it basically having my water broken? Which makes it harder for her to pass down through my pelvis?

I would say give it a shot, it's uncomfortable but not extremely painful. I'd say if nothing is happening by monday then maybe see if they'll do one on tuesday. That might be the last resort before induction. At least that gives your body the chance to start labor without meds. I know it isn't your plan, but we know sometimes we have to adjust those plans 😔

@arivera64, okay gotcha. No I'm trying to avoid any internal exams until labor. Aside from my husband checking my cervix once a week. I'm nervous about having them swept

My first wasn't, but my vbac baby (my 3rd) was overdue and i was so terrified of having another cesarean. They werent going to induce me for a vbac. Luckily he wised up and came out. lol

Try not to worry. Have you had your membranes swept?
