@heatherlg88, it depends on how your labor is. I had to be induced for the first 24 hours. So I got IV, antibiotics (I tested positive for strep B) and I got one round of pain meds (couldn't have more because of one of my boys otherwise you get them every six hours) and they make you pass out. Once I was dilated and she broke my water I lasted about three and a half hours before I needed it. But I do recommend it. I was in too much pain I was having trouble breathing which is when they recommend you get it. Once I got it (the needle and the whole process is tough and a little painful, I had gotten the numbing shot and it was eh, then the needle for the epi was a little painful.) But after a few contractions I couldn't feel them any more
okay! I'm thinking of doing the pain meds, then trying my best to go without the epidural. lol my doctor recommended me getting it tho. thank you for the info!
@heatherlg88, my best advice is to do what I did. take as much as you can until you can't take the pain anymore. I didn't last very long and I got it early but you gotta do what you gotta do! The only thing with the pain meds like I said it will knock you out. I had a bad reaction to them. Nothing like medical, but I was given them and then they woke me up an hour later and I was hysterical and moody and it was rough.. Then I was just in and out of sleep until early this morning.
The contractions kicked my butt, back labor was horrible, I was crying my eyes out. I finally had to get the epidural, I really wanted a 100% natural labor. But honestly if you're pain tolerance is low or you simply can't stand it anymore, do what you have to do lol
That was the biggest reason I'm going to try to go natural again, I loved that I didn't have any more pain but not being able to move AT ALL sucked!! its definitely a weird feeling!!
