MIL came over to watch Matthew last night while we went out. We get home 9:45, and he's still up, TV's still on, and bedtime hasn't started yet. (We start bedtime stuff around 9.) Not a huge deal...it's grandma time, Friday night...whatever. Then she tells us that she started reading a book and fell asleep on the couch, claiming Matthew was starting to sleep too. (He was wide awake running around the couch when we got in. I know my kid. He wasn't even close to sleep lol.) So she didn't even try to get him in bed before she starts reading her own book and not paying attention to him? Then claimed she couldn't get him to settle down...while Disney Jr. is still on TV. And she poured him another full cup of milk right before bed, even though we're trying to potty train him.
Like, I don't know if she honestly just checked out last night and wasn't thinking, or if she really has lost any common sense taking care of kids? (He's not even her first grandchild.) Kinda at a loss here lol.

Doesn't sound like she was being a good grandmother. My MIL would probably be the same. Thankfully she lives in Missouri but my family is all in Scotland so I have no one to babysit for me ha. I just can't forget the first time she met my son when he was maybe a month old and she said how she can't wait to take him for his first McDonalds!!!!!! I was freaking out. You know your child best though, maybe try avoid having her babysit again if possible.

@lauradg23, funny thing is that she immediately started asking when he could spend the night at her house again! (She refuses to child proof it even a little bit.) We definitely only use her when there are no other options. And omg your MIL! Sorry girl!

Oh hell no. I would never let my child stay with his grandma especially if she won't childproof. There are a lot of things kids can get a hold of that you'd think they couldn't. And the fact she fell asleep and he was able to roam free gosh anything could happen. I'm sorry your having MIL issues. Ah I'm just glad she lives too far away to visit often ha. But she has 4 other grandchildren and a great grandson too so she doesn't bother with my son at all. I wouldn't even be surprised if he doesn't get a birthday card for his first birthday next month.

@babydiehl2016, I did say I wasn't sure how to feel about it... And she has done worse in the past. I asked to see if it sounded like she just wasn't thinking or really lacks common sense. She's taken care of him enough times I would think she would get it.
