Anyone test positive for group b strep? Can you explain what it means and should I be worried?

Ohhh....well, I didn't even think about it and they have moved my date up to Wed.....I'll be 34 weeks so I guess I'll mention it to them thx! @ginnalynn

I was told if your having a c-section my ob wouldn't check because the infection can't pass to baby but if your having vaginal then my ob said what I'm going into labor she will be putting the antibiotic threw the IV

that's a great question @scidg3 , and I'm actually not sure about that if you're definitely having a c-section. my best advice is to ask your OB/midwife since I will only give medical advice if I've personally been certified in it. I'm not an OB/midwife, I'm a lab tech.

do you know if c-sec you still have to be tested for it? @ginnalynn

no problem, don't feel bad for the test coming back positive. there's nothing you could've done to prevent it and it's not hurting you at all from having it, some women have it while others don't.

testing positive for strep B is actually very common and normal because it can normally be found in the female vagina/anus (I'm a lab tech and work with this bacteria often). during labor, the doctor will just give you antibiotics so that the strep doesn't get passed to your baby because it can be harmful to them. no worries momma, very normal
