the colostrum is plenty. it has all the nutrients they need to get started. for some people it comes in a day or 2 later. some it takes longer. mine was in 2 days after delivery. but until then he did just fine on colostrum

Though my Dr insist it's very rare for woman not to produce enough.

no you don't need to feed formula the colostrum will be enough and breastfeeding is hard the first month, but he first week baby will want to feed rather frequently and the more they feed the better your milk will come in my milk came in on the 3rd morning after a very long night of frequent feeding. what I would suggest is do some research and talk to a lactation consultant.. read up on the first month of breastfeeding though so you know what to expect. and if you can help it don't supplement with formula at all, because if you do that then Baby feeds less meaning less milk you will produce. also if your baby is jaundice and they want to supplement with formula ask to try frequent breastfeeding first, because brett milk is digested quicker and better then formula so there for should help your baby void out the bad stuff that makes them slightly yellow

If your colostrum isn't enough you can always supplement and just do both until your milk comes in!

I'm a first time mom so this is all new to me, but its a natural thing and the baby will know what to do and you will know if it feels right or not. and yes most hospitals have lactation consultants around the clock so they can give you advice and tips and help make sure the baby is getting what they need from you. my son is 2.5 weeks old now and he's a pro at breast feeding. and I absolutely LOVE the bond we have from nursing
