Why do women get their membranes stripped or cervix stretched? I have never heard of it making a difference and It ends up causing you more pain and discomfort (probably making labor take longer to start lol) are these medically necessary?

it helped me go in labor. I had no discomfort except the 5 seconds it took to do it.

No, they usually just do it to try to jump start labor lol. It definitely didn't help me so I wouldn't do it again. I didn't have any progress before or after
