So yesterday was a very long day for me, and by the time i got to my ob appt at 6pm i had a killer headache. My blood pressure was 148/98 which is really high according to my dr. So he prescribed me pills i have to take once a day, every day. 😣 The thing is, i really do think it was only high because i was up at 7am and didnt get enough sleep. But the dr still told me i had to take them. Ive gone this far without taking anything and i dont really wanna take pills even though he assured me it was completely safe. My father has a blood pressure monitor that he gave me to use so i can check it whenever i need to. If its okay should i just not take the pills? or should i stop being so stubborn and listen to my dr lol.

taking the pills or not taking them could mean risking having your baby or not. High blood pressure is nothing to mess with, especially during pregnancy.

I'd listen your dr you can harm the baby if not. That's how my bp was and I had to be medicated too and my daughter was completely healthy. Just be forewarned though they might keep a closer eye on you the closer you get to your due date incase it gets too high again. I was put on bed rest my last week and half and was scheduled to induce at 40 weeks exactly but my daughter decided she was coming two days before lol

@2ndchancemommy, I'd take and monitor and document so you could call dr in a week or so and say it's been good!?

Even with no sleep, that blood pressure was pretty high. I would take your meds and monitor your blood pressure. Like @arivera64 it really isn't something to take lightly 😔

If that was the first time your pressure has been high and you know it's typically not then I would say I won't take them either! Heck these docs always pushing something! like for instance I had a fetal-echo today bc my baby has a cleft lip and I have 2 whatevers of extra fluid! my babies heart is fine and what does that have to do with the tea in China, not a darn thing if you ask me! Now I don't profess to be a doctor, but I do profess to be highly educated, and have decent common sense! I would monitor myself for a couple days and see what the pattern is like and go from there. You are in control of your health, they work for you not the other way around. If need be, second opinion!

honestly I would take them and monitor. I just started having high blood pressure myself a few weeks ago and it's nothing to mess with. mine has been below the 140/90 but barely. once it reaches over that point I've read online that they start to worry more. being that you are so early in your pregnancy, I definitely wouldn't take any chances.

@arivera64, @shelbyjo @hlanc4 @mommagotbump16 @expectingz @jessicarose0602 thank you ladies for your input. i think im gonna take them for no and monitor/keep a journal of my bp through out the day so i can show my dr when i go back in 3 weeks. and then ill see how it goes from there

Good luck! That will be really helpful for your doctor too, so they can adjust your medicines etc as your pregnancy goes on.

@2ndchancemommy, honestly no meds are proven "safe" when pregnant. The FDA does state that, but you have to weigh what's best for you and your baby the risk vs the benefits. I take Bradley Method classes and there is boatloads of info I didn't know. Just be careful, and rest, and mindful of the signs your body gives you.
