Got a question for second time mommies...I'm due July 23rd but my doctor might be outta town around that time frame he asked me if I wanted to be induced but I would REALLY like to wait for her to come in her own but I REALLY want my doc to be there when it is time, so I guess my question is if I choose to induce how soon or early can I do it ?? My fiance wants her to be induced on July 4th but I feel that's 2 weeks she can still be incubating.
Technically a full term baby is 37 weeks but personally I would want baby to grow as much as he/she can. They gain about a pound a week in the last weeks, so that will make a significant difference if baby got here 2 or even 3 weeks earlier than if baby came naturally. Also to consider, there is a greater chance of a c-section if baby is induced. If you really want your doctor to be there, I would say to go for the induction. I don't know how it works where you are, but where I am, the doctor that delivers your baby is the doctor on call. So if your baby did come naturally, there's a chance your doctor may not even be the one to deliver.. Like I said, this is how it is where I live, not sure if your hospital is the same.
The doctor is only there for a split second. The longer the baby is in, the better!(:
I was induced at 39.5 and he stayed 2 days. I had another naturally at 37.1 and stayed 2 days (one was 5 lbs 10 oz and the other was 6 lbs 4 oz). I had one naturally at 39.5 and we stayed one day and he was 6 lbs. 6 oz. I think 38 weeks induction is perfectly fine if it's important to you to have your doctor there. Although with my first, my doctor wasn't there and I ended up liking the doctor I got better and switched afterwards to her practice LOL!
