My doctor will only do ultrasounds at 8 weeks and then not until 20 weeks to find out the gender. Just curious but how can they tell if the baby is healthy and growing right and all without doing an ultrasound? I kinda don't feel safe only having 2 ultrasounds the whole pregnancy.
I got an ultra sound at 6 weeks, 10 weeks, 12 weeks and 16 (I paid for myself to find out gender) and my most recent at 20 weeks and 5 days. I don't know if I'm getting any more after this point, but my ob checks my babies heart beat every 4 weeks and urine as well.
they are suppose to check things at each appointment. like urine, blood pressure, weight. they should listen to babies heartbeat and measure your uterus. If there are other issues or your high risk they do more.
they check for the heart beat with a fetal doppler and when you get to 25wks and beyond they measure the growth of the uterus by feeling with their fingers where the uterus starts to where it ends and measuring it with a measuring tape and that's how they determine the state of the baby health if those are not what they expect it to be then they will give an untrasound..
They do alot of blood work and urine tests and they use the doppler to hear the heart beat. I worry about the same thing but, I just try not to worry too much because that's bad for the baby haha I wish it wasn't so bad! I'd get one every week haha but, yeah :/
I'm not wanting a bunch of ultrasounds I just worry about how can they tell if my baby is healthy without doing one what if my baby is having a problem or not growing right or there heart isn't beating as much as its suppose to how do they know? @1sttimemummy
Having too many ultrasounds is bad for your baby. My doctor only does 3 unless an issue arises.
Well that's what my mom told me but I know 4 other girls that are going to another doctor in the same town where my doctor is and this doctor does an ultrasound every month. And none of these girls are high risk. @cogsworth84
My doc does the same thing. But at each appointment I get to hear his/her heartbeat after an exam. I'm getting one Thursday to test for Down's syndrome and the Trisomy's. I still worry even though I know I'll have more than 2 ultrasounds but I trust my doc and love getting to hear baby's heart beat at every appointment!
