In Florida, the father is automatically granted 50% custody (unless either parent agrees to less time). You don't need an attorney for that. And he is also required to pay child support. If he doesn't, they will take it out of his paycheck. You need the $ to support your child, get it! And if he wants to be a part of the child's life then he should be. Sounds more like he is trying to scare you though. It's almost impossible, even in bad circumstances, to get a judge to agree to less custody for either parent.

If you go to court & take out child support then they may be able to find a lawyer for you . Lawyers will work with you on payments (don't worry about that ) but if he wanna throw that mess up then tell him to try you & see what happens bc if he has any type of background then he ain't getting shit but weekends lol

He told me that he wants 50% custody so he won't have to pay me a dime... But not really because he wants his child. He works 6 days a week so he wouldn't even be home to see him if he got 50%. @kenitra

Take him to court and tell them everything he said. Right now you're playing right into his hands. Don't lay down and take that! Fight back, take him to court. If you can't afford a lawyer, the courts can appoint one for you. Or you could look for a lawyer that does pro Bono work.

Ok great well you're looking good idk how things work where you live but I know here child support is mandatory and even if you can't afford one will be assigned to you

@canaryblu That's also not how it works in Florida. It's a percentage of income that calculates the amount of child support that's owed. If he makes more $ than you, he will owe child support. You can find the calculators and paperwork on whichever county website. Just search for child support calculation hillsborough county (or whichever county you are in). It's right on there county clerk website.

Document anything and everything he says. Being able to show proof of what's going on will help you out. He's trying to scary you with the 50% thing. If he works that much I doubt he is willing to cut back his hr or pay for childcare. The packet is only like $25 at the court house in Clearwater and you fill it all out and you go to partner court And make a parent plan And If that doesn't work out then you go to court court. They want to make it as civil as possible. But if you have things documented it will help. Don't play into his games or fight with him because he might document stuff as well. You and I are very close like may be 30 min apart so if you ever need to talk or need help with anything I'm more then happy. I know my 2 year old would be happy as well. Best of luck. @canaryblu
