called hr at my job to find out about paid maternity leave. they basically told me I'm ineligible…

I have a city job and it's the same. Paid maternity leave is not the norm any where. They are just required to allow you to take leave and enter back into the industry with same role.

I work for the federal government. we don't get paid leave either sweetie

I think they mean through them, they will not pay, but if you have protected leave, its called FMLA, so you file that with the state, and its 55% of your pay gross, not taxed

no way! @landuhzluv I can't believe that. we need to start a bill and petition for paid maternity leave for everyone across the country. they have billions of dollars to build jails, billions of dollars to spend on unnecessary wars, billions of dollars to put in politicians pockets, they can filter some of that money and make paid maternity leave a thing.

Yep. I worked as an EMT for one company for 3 years. Due to the heavy lifting I had to stop at 30 weeks. They told me the only thing they could do for me was hold my job for 12 weeks. Total B.S because I'd be out of work for 10 weeks before I even had my baby and I'm not returning 2 weeks after having her. Mind you the company has a high turnover rate and I gave them 3 years of my time!

why are they making you use vacation hours first? that doesn't sound right. call back and ask to speak to the main person in charge in that department.

they said im not eligible for paid leave at all and to use vacation before I do the actual leave. and I can't even file the claim til 30 days before the estimated last day of work.

It seems to happen in a lot of jobs.

I did some research though to prepare if i ever decide to have another baby. It turns out in some states if you know you'll be having to go out of work due to pregnancy you can file for pregnancy disability insurance while you're doing your family planning. Not sure if something like that exists where you're at but just for a future reference.

@rachel8792, FMLA is federal and not paid. Some states will pay for disability pay though.

@averysmom8_3_16, yeah they give you the option of being paid your vacation time, and usually it's you can take all of it or none of it. 😡😔

If you are paying into short term disability then I would call that company and talk to them, that's what short term disability is for! Yes you have to take a unpaid leave FMLA to hold your position, but paying into STD is how you get paid for 6-8 weeks during that time. Im in NC too and have done a little bit of research on it, but not much.

On your paycheck where all your deductions are listed, like federal state, it will say S.T.D. If that's on there you pay into it! @averysmom8_3_16
