Medicaid question:

I'm on Medicaid for pregnant women. Does that cover birth control after I deliver? If it does, is it only certain ones?

Yes! It covers all birth control.

@uhohitskyra, okay awesome, thank you! I've been researching all the different kinds and wanted to make sure before I went to talk to my OB about one I was interested in. After my baby is born, do I have to call up to Medicaid again and get on regular Medicaid? Not sure if my benefits change since I'm technically no longer pregnant then. Not sure how any of this works lol

I know in Missouri you keep pregnancy Medicaid until three months after birth then you have to apply for another service. You always keep Medicaid just to cover your birth control regardless.

i live in texas and used medicaid and they let me have whatever birth control after i had my baby. in texas the coverage you had from being pregnant lasts 2 months after your due date (i had my son march 2nd, my medicaid is up on may 31st). and i don't qualify for it now that i'm not pregnant, so i chose to get a non hormonal iud so i don't have to worry about a monthly prescription that i won't be able to afford w/o medicaid, you feel me?

@tiffanigypsy8, Ohhh okay! Yeah that absolutely makes sense. Luckily the one i want is similar to the Mirena but I can still nurse with it in. It lasts for a long time so I guess if I don't qualify for basic Medicaid, I'm still good as far as birth control. Thank you!

i have the paragard iud, it's non hormonal and amazing. i hate hormonal birth control, it makes me crazy. that's how i ended up pregnant because i stopped taking it in fear of losing my boyfriend and friends from being so wild.

@tiffanigypsy8, that's what I want to get! Do you have any side effects from it?

when it was inserted i cramped and bleed pretty mildly for a few days, and i could definitely feel it in there for a while. it didn't hurt at all, i can just feel it in my uterus. i only feel it now when my baby is laying on me and elbows my abdomen. I've had it like 8 days now and i think it made me start my period 😕 I'm breastfeeding so I was hoping not to get it for a few more months.
