If me and my partner both work and claim no benefits or anything, are we entitled to the maternity grant?

Yeah she just said pick up the form from the job centre, I didn't think I would be entitled because I work full time but she said that doesn't matter if your wage alone is less than £16000, apparently it doesn't matter about your partner x
My midwife told me everyone is entitled to the maternity grant if it's your first child and you earn less than £16000 a year

Haha he would be skint constantly @amyfreemz! He earns enough for the bills and the food and to go shopping for himself but I'm in desperate need of clothes so have to go to my dad 😠 he's just decided he wants a new car aswell🙈 xx
Well I done the income support thing and on a different calculator it says I can have £44 a week child tax credits, ahhhh so confusing 😩😂 @lynette26 oh @ellieee you lucky mare 😋 if he didn't have to pay £250 to his ex for previous children I suppose we'd be a bit better off, god help my partner if we break up his child payments will be silly haha xx

@amyfreemz, I'm lucky enough for my oh to earn enough money to do it, but I miss having my own money! Had to sweet talk my dad to pay for my car to be fixed on Friday and my insurance to come out today🙈 xx
It's really worrying me... I know people do it and they manage and you just have to get on with it but it's still just silly because you decide to bring a life into the world you have to struggle with less money... What's income support? Would I be entitled to that? @lynette26 and it's silly isn't it @natroberts88 were the same but renting... Becoming a parent is supposed to be a happy time not stressing about money 😩 xx
You can only claim the maternity grant if you are claiming another benefit such as income support. You need to claim child benefit when baby is here as they want the birth certificate and everything! The government are so nosey!! I've just put a claim in for income support and they want to know your life story and I have a meeting with the job centre to complete my claim. It is annoying to what we are allowed to claim and what we have to claim before we receive anything at all 😡 x
@amyfreemz, I'm the same. Me & my OH can only claim the child benefit and then pay our mortgage & bills out of his wages and whatever maternity pay I get from my job! Xx
you get a £500 grant if its ur first or u are expecting twins or triplets x
Oh god how horrible... I was lucky I was there for over a year before, but I've lost £400 a month and privately renting a 2 bedroom place with all household bills and losing £400 is quite a big struggle! Do you rent? How are you managing? @ellieee xx
That's bad!! That's the problem with this government, if you get one thing you can get everything! I'm still waiting to hear about my maternity allowance as haven't been at my job long enough, been on maternity leave since 18th April and due in just over 2 weeks so we're both living on my oh wages 😡 xx
Child tax credits were not entitled to... I just filled out the calculator, it's not even like we earn a lot and I'm being greedy... We pay all the bills and have a bit left over but not overly loads 😒 @winterbaby95 @ellieee xx

I'm not either, maybe just apply and see what they say. You might not get the full £500 but you should get something x
