I'm a few days away from being classed as full term. Braxton hicks are happening more often now. I was tested positive for B strep earlier on in my pregnancy and told that once my waters are to break I was to head straight to hospital. However now being paranoid as people have mentioned to me that their waters didn't break until they were basically in active labour. I'm needing antibiotics before she arrives. & also if I'm to have my 'show' shall I go into hospital then or wait for my waters? Anyone who's given birth with B strep please advice me so I'm not an anxious mess. Would be appreciated, thanks in advance. 😘

Can't give any advice with the strep B, but I never had a show till my waters were broken in the hospital. Just keep an eye on the pains and if you're worried don't hesitate to contact your midwife x

Once you are in active labour get down to the hospital and tell them straight away that you need the antibiotic drip, they will sort it straight away. I had it with both my two xx

@zaralee71, im just scared that if I wait till active labour it will just be my luck that it all happens too quickly and been told they have added an extra 2 hours to the usual time they set for giving antibiotics. Were you in labour for long may I ask xx

I know it's scary but you don't have to have the full course of antibiotics, aslong as you have most. Active labour with my first was 3 hours start to finish so I didn't get all of the drip but the hospital refused to let me in until I was in active labour. With my second I was in slow labour for 36 hours and then active labour for a further 6 xx

I had group b strep with my youngest and now have it again 18+ weeks pregnant😞 when I went Into labour went to the hospital and they left me for abit for my contractions to get stronger. And they came back to put the drip into my hand and my waters broke and baby head was there so they didn't have enough time to put it in so we had to stay in for 6 days because baby will needs antibiotics via drip xx

@jasmine050, aw no! See that's what I'm scared will happen to me as I always have bad luck. With my anxiety and depression I just physically couldn't imagine myself staying over night in hospital. Just hoping all goes nicely and I can go home. But obviously it's whatever is best for baby. Just hoping I have some sort of warning sign like 'show' or my waters breaking so I can go straight into hospital. I have a rather high pain tolerance so I reckon I'd tolerate contractions for a while before I actually take them seriously. Xx

call your midwife or labour ward and ask these questions. They will tell you what you need to know rather than wondering.

You and everyone who touches or holds the baby for the first three months will need to use antibacterial hand gel, we needed to do it with ours because of GBS. xx
