When do I give my baby his first sponge bath and how lol I'm clueless he can't regulate his…

My twins were preemies, and I waited about 2 weeks for their first bath. I made the water warm, you will be able to tell if it's too hot or not. But I had an infant tub and filled it up about half way so they stayed warm as I bathed them. I did it while the AC wasn't running and I turned the fan off so that way when I took them out the house wasn't freezing

How old were they when you gave them their first bath like gestational age or was it past your due date at that point?

I had my son at 35.5 days I gave him a sponge bath the night we came home I turned my heat on and got it really warm in my house and then made a bowl of water with soap and another bowl of just plain water and I bathed on my couch and after I wiped him with a clean rag and water I towel dried him lotioned him and dressed quickly so he didn't get cold.

It was 39 weeks gestational age. My daughter was 4 lbs 5 oz and my son was 5 lbs 6 oz, so they were really small, but my husband helped and was really gentle, they love the bath too. I use the nighttime bed & bath and they absolutely love it

if the umbilical cord is off you can do a submersion Bath but best was is to have everything ready, and my suggestion is to wash fast then plan to do skin to skin afterwards with a warm towel from either the dryer or microwave.. skin to skin will help with the temperature regulation

@aphrodite2014, I can do a submersion because he's circumcised and it's not fully healed. @tatiananoelani my baby is 4 lbs exactly

if you do a sponge bath I would be by a sink with warm water running undress the little one and put them on a towel then wash the body wrap baby in a clean warm towel and wash hair under running water while they are swaddled in the blanket.. then do the skin to skin

@rockysmommy, with the circumcision just wash around the scrotum but not the scrotum or near the circumstances. sight.. just make sure to ring out the washcloths and what not

@rockysmommy, doing skin to skin will help him regulate his body temperature. I work in a nicu and we encourage it with all babies that are well enough to do skin to skin. I even did it with my full term little man when his temp dropped too far after his first sponge bath it works really well!

@rockysmommy, yeah and that's kinda strange we encourage skin to skin especially for bonding, but it helps regulate body temperature also.. it will also help you with breast milk production of your breast feeding..

@rockysmommy, then skin to skin should help you quite a bit from what I've Hurd doing skin to skin at least once a day for an hour or so can help pumping mom's produce more effectively.
