I have A- and am rh- as well. I got my first rhogam shot at 28 weeks and am due to receive another after giving birth. It scares me too even though it is manageable 😟. You really have to be on top of your own health. My ob office completely forgot/didn't notice I'm rh- until I reminded them. Thankfully I knew you are supposed to get it at 28 weeks for first baby. I do look forward to having more children in life and I think you have to get them more frequently with subsequent pregnancies but the rhogam shot is literally a life saver. Try not to stress too much !
@bryaxtonsmommy, Congrats on your baby! That's interesting about your slight d antigen! Biology is so complex.
Me too! I have a "slight d antigen" so sometimes my blood test will come back as being positive when in fact my blood type is negative. I was 18 when I was pregnant and only then did I find out about it. It's very easy to manage so just don't stress! I now have a very healthy 9 month old! 😊
I have a negative blood type as well. Got my shot on Wednesday. Like @mommarodey said, it's manageable and as long as your doctor isn't concerned, you have nothing to worry about!
That's what I have. 🙋🏽 I got my rogham shot last Thurs. It's very manageable! With modern medicine there is not much left to worry about. 2 of my sisters are O- as well, one has 6 kids, one has 3. As long as your OB is aware, it's no biggie at all.
@chela915, Me too! It was the 1st text I saw from my midwife yesterday morning and I was bawling my eyes out! Scared the crap out of my husband. Now that I've read up on it I'm like ok, fine, this is manageable. Not awesome though.
yea true,at first you are like the hell is that i was freaking out. @swanwave
@chela915, I only found out yesterday at 18 weeks so I was really upset more from shock I think. I don't love the idea of taking rhogam if the baby's positive, but there are worse things. At least rhogam exists. Thank goodness I only want 2 or 3 kids.
I am O- too. My first baby is fine and healthy and he came out O+. I am pregnant with my second and my doc said there is a higher risk of misscarrying in the second pregnancy and that's another reason why you need the shots in your first pregnancy. My mother is also rh- and she had me and my brother so yeah nothing to worry about. after all if your baby comes out negative too then there was nothing to worry about in the first place. :-) Thank goodness for the shot for people like us!
