Looking for opinions: I love my child's father, I really do, and I'm a very open minded person, but I really wish we grew up with similar families (in particular parents) and values. It's so annoying to constantly (jokingly or not) be told that something I'm used to is over the top or too much. We literally don't agree on schooling, reprimanding our nugget, or really much in terms or raising our nugget and the baby shower is still a bit of a thing that we're walking on eggshells about. For example, I'm not crazy about where I'm moving in terms of schools in the area and once I get more financially stable I'd like to move back to the town I'm currently living in because the public school education system is amazing here as opposed to the neighboring town's public school system where we'll be moving and probably living once the baby's old enough to be going to school. I know that the two towns have an agreement in which they send children from each town to the other for school but it isn't really until they're older and they've already finished their primary k-6 schooling, he doesn't want to live in the town where I currently live and thinks that I'm just being snobby (you'd think after hearing people call me that a majority of my life it wouldn't bother me), and hates that I want to prepare our child to be ready for school when they're 4 because the town I live in currently allows children to start kindergarten at 4 if they're properly prepared and it's something that I feel helped me tremendously as a kid and he thinks that that's also annoying because he and his siblings started school at 5 whereas I didn't. I already know that I will be the parent that's involved with my child's learning outside of school as well as in school because his parents don't really have a hands on approach to raising his siblings and being involved in their education neither in the home or outside of it (this is something I know and have seen firsthand, not an assumption). He also feels that my idea of the child needs boundaries from an early age and needs to know right from wrong and not be rewarded after doing something bad or getting a bad report from school is mean because anytime his 9 year old sister comes home in trouble at school and crying his automatic response is to go buy her a treat and give it to her instead of waiting and rewarding her for something good and things like that make my skin crawl because although I was spoiled, when I did something bad or got a bad grade my parents would definitely cut me off from stuff or if they bought me something I was not allowed to have it until I fixed a grade considerably (like if something is a c, a c+ isn't acceptable) or righted whatever was wrong and learned my lesson or whatever the case may be. By no means am I saying I want my child to be some perfect angel or be like me, but I also don't want the child to end up like him or his siblings, I want my child to be its own person, but just know what's okay and not okay and to be well educated so that it can actually get somewhere in life, and the things I've seen in his house and seen them do won't help the child in the long run. I don't want to run some sort of jail compound or something for my child and suck the fun out of life, but it needs to know that things aren't a free for all and that you can't run around like a wild child acting like the other kids of they're doing something bad. I've seen various parenting styles and know that what works for some may not work for all but I don't want my child to have a chance to even act up and think its actions will go unnoticed. Obviously we won't know 100% what will and won't work for our child in terms of really anything until it's here, but I do feel that we need to come up with some sort of united front and stick to it and not be raising the child 5000 different ways at once. Any other mommies go through something similar where their partner was raised (very) differently and they clashed when it came to thoughts on raising their children or school or something?
