I am NOT saying this is the case for everyone.. but for a vast majority, it's exactly how things go. Your doctor's convenience is not more important than your birth experience.

I know it hurts the first few days! Don't be fooled! Very frequent nursing is normal! Your newborn is fine and so will be your nipples!!
