Can my preemie baby tell the difference between formula and breast milk? He's breastfed and ever since I started producing a crap ton, they haven't given him any formula, only my milk. Reminder: I'm still at the hospital trying to get my little man to gain weight. He gained two ounces yesterday and only needs to gain one more ounce so we can go home. Well there's new nurses today and she brought his milk in earlier and I wasn't paying attention and fed it to him. It was 50 ml and usually he eats that quickly. Well he wouldn't eat all of it, only 30 of it. I thought that was odd, usually he scarfs it down. But then I waited my three hours until next feeding and I pumped before and asked the nurse if I could give him my fresh milk I pumped and she said "yeah and top it off with formula" I thought that was strange all the nurses knew he was breastfed. I filled a bottle to 50 ml and he drank all of it quickly.. Well I took the old bottle of the stuff from the earlier feeding and sat it next to my breast milk and the color and smell were completely different.. I'm pretty upset because my baby needs to gain weight, they should watch that closely so I don't want to jump to conclusions, but I feel like they gave him formula 😔😔😔
