my SO said you just installed the brackets wrong it's supposed to support the bed up. And in your pic you have one more spot to move it up and once you move it up and point the support brackets the right way it'll be all the way up

For newborns it says to have it all the way up, it's easier to get the baby in and out,especially if you have a c section. They have to meet safety standards so if you have the correct size mattress I'd raise it up

then it may be just because they're different because we put it up together and this is how ours says to do it, regardless if yours is slanted up or down you still have space to move it up, that's why they have different settings so you can adjust the height
