Does your baby just want to eat less sometimes? My son is on roughly a 3 hour eating schedule. He usually eats 4-4.5 ounces a feeding but every now and then it is a struggle to get him to eat 3. He is 6 weeks old. How much do you let your baby drive his volume? He was exclusively fed bottled breast milk for 4 weeks and has been 100% formula for 2 weeks now.
@ella1007, oh I would love that. He is getting much better at night. Then randomly one night he will want to be up and play for hours at night lol.
Aubrey is almost 10 weeks and she's been doing that since about 6 weeks. I think it's normal. The dr said she's perfect so I'm going to continue the same way. He told us if they eat more often daytime you are more likely to get more sleep at night. Sounds like you are on the right track 😜
@sarahemccormick, thank you. Ayden was born at 36 weeks but weighed 8 lbs 3 oz. just a big boy. He likes to eat :)
Well, I can tell you that what you're experiencing with him seems to be completely normal. Sometimes, babies will do that - whether they are formula or breast fed. They will start their feed, and then fall asleep. My son used to do that all the time when he was between 1 and 2 months old. A lot of babies do. Its something he shouod grow out of. And you will notice when he goes through growth spurts, he wants to eat more often and in greqter volume. When my son was in the NICU, he was on a strict feeding schedule for the first 6 weeks of life in terms of how often (every 3 hours) but when he came home and had surpassed his birth weight, he began eating how much he wanted to, whenever he wanted to. I breastfeed, but also have a ton of frozen breastmilk I can give him in bottles from when he was in the NICU and I was pumping. When he drinoa bottles he usually has around 3.5 - 4 oz. He was born preemie at 5 lbs and will be 3 mos on the 16th. Last time I had him weighed, he was 11 lbs but that was a month ago. So that was at 2 mos. I am guessing he is around 13 or 13.5 now. Just follow his lead and you cant go wrong.
@ella1007, thanks! He is the same. 4 oz every 3 sometimes 4 hours during the day - then randomly he just would rather sleep after a couple ounces and eat again in an hour. But he has started going 5+ hours overnight some nights. Not consistently but he is only 6 weeks so I know he is just figuring it out.
Mine does that. Sometimes she eats 5 oz and sometimes she only wants 2-3 oz. I just give her what she wants. She also eats every 4 hrs normally but sometimes she wants to eat in 2-3 hrs but she goes 7-8 hrs at night
@sarahemccormick, thank you!! I wasn't looking for another first time mom to try and tell me how my baby tolerates his diet or tel me i am going to make him fat. Just simply how early did other moms let baby drive volume. It's trying to understand the difference between "I'm full" and "I would rather sleep right now and eat more in an hour".
Wow...Pretty sure as his mom you know the amount he needs to eat...Unreal
@mommasgirlxx, you aren't his doctor so don't act like you are. If you can't be respectful then stay off my posts
You should still becareful you dont want to not wait his time because hes gonna blow up you dont want that.
@mommasgirlxx, he has always taken 4 oz under the direction of our pedi. He eats 26-32 oz a day because he weighs over 11 lbs. just randomly he doesn't want to eat. He is a big boy so he eats more.
If hes just on formula now you may be giving him too much! And that can be why he doesnt take it all! Formula is much heavier then breastmilk... For every oz of formula it takes his body 1 hour to digest...so if your giving him 3 you need to wait 3 hours etc... However at six weeks hes what two months??? He shouldnt have more then 4 oz... Until 3 months he can have 5oz but you should try keeping him at 4 or then giving him 4.5 because its harder for them to wait 5 hours
I have decided Aubrey is a night owl like mommy and daddy so she is up until midnight most nights but then sleeps 12-8 so I just go with it lol
