so the father of this child i will be having is going to take me to court cause he says he has a right for are child to have his last name.... I Don think that's true or is it....FYI we are not married
In 2001 a law/code was passed for unmarried mothers. You have sole custody until other documentation is put in place. You are the deciding factor. My sister just went to get emergency custody of her 2 boys and the judge told her it was unnecessary because the documented father hasn't came up with legal agreements with her. Hope it helped. But call the courthouse and ask just to be sure
Well in the end I kept my moms name 👍🏻 I think the judge just figured since the father is going to be helping via child support then maybe he deserves to have the child named after him but idk lol my parents weren't married and my mom gave all 3 her kids her last name. My dad was the only one to actually tell the judge he wanted my named changed but my dad didn't sign the birth certificate so my mom said no
@rosej3, I just read @canaryv, comment and I'm glad it's like that in Ohio! I'll be DAMNED if I'm force to change my daughters last name to my doner's.
Not true. I have my moms last name and my little brother has hers too. I've always said ALL of my kids will have MY last name no matter what.
my cousin isn't either n when they went to court n he asked for a test they also made her give the baby his name she just gave the baby both
It depends really, my mom gave me her last name and when she put my dad on child support my dad wanted her to change my last name. Judge said to change it but my mom said not unless my dad pays for it and since he didn't pay I kept my moms last name
its up too you when you sign the birth certificate but when he goes to court they will make you change it if he takes a paternity test
so not true it's up to you, in the hospital the baby will be called your last name. it's up to you when u sign the birth certificate papers the name .
ok thanks @lexximarie
