My baby boy is 5 days old. I am breastfeeding. Its making my nipples very sore and i switch him every time he eats to the opposite of before. What is a way around all the blood and soreness? And how often should I pump?

your nipples need to harden. there is some level of soreness expected. let them air dry after feedings, use nipple cream. also maybe see your lactation nurse to make sure the latch is correct.

There's no rule to pumping if you are giving baby the breast. what i can say is you can pump on one side while he nurses from the other. Also, make sure his latch is good. Incorrect latch is the biggest cause of sore nipples

@cherryfield, I have to pump I am producing so much breast milk that if I don't pump my boobs will leak like crazy (more than a constant drip) and they get swollen and hard and its harder to feed.
