For first time mummies what's best? Natural or drug labor? Really nervous about the pain

what does the epidural do

An epidural is a kind of anaesthetic injected into your spine. It numbs the lower half of your body. Sometimes you will still be able to walk. You will probably have a catheter placed also. The epidural can be "topped up" as labour continues, as it starts to wear off. There are some links between epidural and more frequent interventions, for example some women don't push effectively because of the lack of sensation. There's lots of information out there on the pros and cons. I've never had one, only read about them and talked to mums who have had them.

As to your original question, I just had gas and air (nitrous oxide or laughing gas) with all my labours. It helps but doesn't take the pain away completely. I like it because it wears off quickly (as soon as you stop breathing it) and I could still walk around and didn't require any extra monitoring. I don't like feeling like I've lost control. It works for me. But for a lot of women it isn't enough.

when i had the epidural i wasnt allowed to walk and they put a catheter in. you pretty much dont feel anything until its about time to push and u can feel the pushing so u dont need assistance with like forceps or the vacuum

did the pushn hurt wit sudn shock of feeln nufin to the pushn part at the end?
