Quick question. I have insurance through the state. And I heard because of this when its time to deliver my baby my boyfriend Won't be able to sign the baby's birth certificate. If he does the state will go after him for child support . And I don't want that too happen. Our relation ship is good , he's a big help and a great supporter.. So putting him on child support wouldn't be right. Anyone have any advice or could tell me what they did in this situation ?

In VA regardless if father is on the certificate if you have medicaid or TANF they will want to locate him and get child support for you.

i believe as long as your on state assistance they go after him just for the fact they want their money regardless like my sons dad they only got him for 20 a week and that all pretty much goes right back to the state because im on food stamps and medicaid.

See I live in Michigan too .. And I've just been hearing so many different things . If he wasn't gonna be in our baby life then it wouldn't matter to me if he got put on child support or not but because he will be apart and we are talking about marriage I just don't think that would be fair. @ninanicole2

I live in Mi and even without him signing the birth certificate since i was on state assistance they went after him for child support and if i didnt cooperate i would get in trouble. With this baby it might be different since she'll be on her dads blue cross blue shield and we live together so that really might make a difference.

I'm on the same thing and I didn't put the father down on the birth certificate because he didn't come back the second day to sign anything because I didn't have it the first day . they tried to go after him and I told I didn't have enough info to go after him and I didn't want to go after him for cs they stopped hassling me about it

No that won't happen unless YOU file for child support

That's how it is here in Ohio, I've heard through others in this situation (I'm married) but from what I know you can't leave that blank or you lose help from the state, my friend was in a very similar situation & she was receiving child support from her fiancé, the we're together and lived together, they just said whatever about it, because it's not like he was losing the money, it stayed in their house hold still & was used there. So they did that & kept the help from the state.

if he's living with u they generally don't go after cs but again it may depend on ur state

I know in Utah what happens is they'll give you coverage for 60 days after the baby has been born and then after that if you want to continue to receive coverage for yourself you have to cooperate with ORS (who collects CS) or you'll lose coverage. your baby should continue to stay covered regardless.

I'm pretty sure you have to actually file for child support of you want it. Just call your insurance company.

every state and situation is different. you'll have to speak with your insurer about it.
