Mommies how did you train your dogs to be friendly with the baby?
I have a 1yr old pitbull and I'm not concerned with her biting or being aggressive towards the baby, I'm more concerned about the licking, jumping and wanting to play.
@babynessa, yea i duno we try to not put anything on her other than using the medicated shampoo. mono is cute! your baby will have fun with the dogs! thanks for the advice! good to know training helps
we get expensive dog food as well. it's a lot of money but it's what helps our dogs. they sell dog cologne Spray. we usually use it when we brush our dogs at night. I don't know if it will irritate your dog's skin. @reina_den
@babynessa, oh yea we give harley benadryl 50 mg each time she breaks out and i was told we can give it every 4-6hrs. i'll only do it if itching is bad and she can't get comfortable. im hoping the allergy shots help cuz she's allergic to all grass weeds pollen trees dust. shots dont help with food allergies tho so we've had to buy expensive food for her that doesnt have wheat potato soy barley rye rice. so far everything we r doing is helping but she's still a stinky dog n we have medicated shampoo for her too
Your little fur baby is adorable. She should be fine once the baby comes. Just watch your baby at first to make sure the baby isn't allergic to Bella's fur. Your child's doctor if you ask will tell you signs to watch out for when it comes to being allergies. @bellaluis1992
two of dogs has allergies and is also allergic to certain dog foods. Did you know you can give your dog's certain human medications to help with that. For example if our dogs don't feel good we give them baby Tylenol. Their medication is basically the same type of medication we use. Vets just like to charge you an arm and a leg for it. @reina_den
@babynessa, and because of her skin allergies she develops a distinct stinky odor. along with d training we r probably going to need to give her more baths when baby gets here.
@babynessa, ay that's another issue for us! harley loves the dog park but she has a ton of environmental skin allergies where she breaks out in hives all over. so we are currently in our 4th month of allergy shots. summer's r d worst for her allergies cuz of the heat. that's partly why it's hard to take her out cuz she breaks out. i'm hoping by the time baby gets here her skin would be better and she can tolerate being outdoors more. it'll help with her energy
that's the same with our german shepherd. we did puppy classes. If he doesn't get his energy out he's horrible getting into everything and anything. My husband plays ball with him outside a few times a day, takes him for walks, or sometimes runs with him. we also sometimes take him to doggie daycare for a few hours so he can plays with dogs his size. @reina_den
@babynessa, oh nice! its all in the training then huh and it can be done! and I see your baby is super young. are you concerned about germs or dirty paws or whatever?
@babynessa, we did the beginning and intermediate puppy classes but havent had time to do the advanced classes but harley's behavior and following commands has improved. i realized she loves instruction and loves to be taught HOWEVER she has so much energy more than me and my husband can handle at times n when she cant release that energy we get behavior probs
I currently sleep with two of our dogs and sometimes I'll co-sleep with my daughter. Our dogs have just learned when the baby is in bed they stay at our feet. in the morning they will get up go to our daughter and smell her and place their head on her. that's about it. I sometimes will leave my daughter asleep in the middle of our bed and tell our dogs "watch the baby" and the literally stare at her. @reina_den
@bellaluis1992, we've had my dog for over a yr and i'm due in august. she's a pitbull so very little shedding happens. she's just a very strong playful dog that can get over excited esp since she is only a yr old
@babynessa, my thoughts exactly! harley has separation anxiety and will squeal and cry when we arent around. she's doing better during the day in her crate tho. what do u think about having the dog continue to sleep in the same room as us and the baby. harley has her own bed.
our dog is still in training so it's like teaching a child. He's less than a year and a really big dog. But he's good with commands when we teach him a new one and consistent in using it. @reina_den
Did u guys have your dog around your baby Once u guys. Went hoe@ with baby ??? Cause I want my. Son to be. Around my dog. But it's just the. Hair of the. Dog I think about
we have 9 dogs. Our german shepherd was our only concern. I wouldn't isolate your dog. You just have to watch them for the first week after awhile your dog will learn. Just remind her that she has to be nice to the baby. we tell our german shepherd to be "easy with the baby" or "watch the baby, protect her" and after the first week and correcting our dog he learned to watch our daughter. Try to balance the baby and your dog when she's nice to the baby reward her with a praise or a treat. we do both. I'll tell him "good watch" when he watches the baby then reward him with a treat. @reina_den
@babynessa, oh really? and he's a puppy? ok. the dog currently stays in our room at night but my mom's solution for everything when the baby is around is put harley (my dog) in her crate. but thats just isolating her and we have a lot of behavioral issues with her when she's cooped up in the crate all day. she needs to let her energy out. i get my moms concern but i would rather be exhausted in training her rather than jist isolating her all the time. we already stick her in the crate when we r at work and she cries so much
I showed our puppy german shepherd our daughter when she got home. After a few days of him being curious about my daughter and trying to lick her constantly. He lost interest in her and now only goes to her if she's crying while I'm in the bathroom or in the kitchen. He usually just stares at her and licks her once or twice until I get her then he goes back to his ball or lays down.
