So I have this older lady neighbor in my apartment complex. She is super excited for the baby and says she can't wait. She keeps bugging me to let her watch him. Well she's in bad health and keeps passing out and such. Am I wrong for not wanting her to really watch him? First baby so I'm overprotective but I'm just worried she'll pass out or something. I'm also breastfeeding so he's going to kind of be attached at my hip and I plan on being a SAHM after he's born so I really don't need someone to babysit him. I feel bad saying all this but I just don't trust anyone but my grandma (who raised me and is like my mom) to watch him. How do I gently break it to her? I know she will be bugging me everytime I walk past her door and she sees me. :/

You're definitely not wrong. If she is in poor health and passing out n such I don't think there's any way she could watch your baby. It's just not a good idea

For the short term you could just say "well baby won't be away from me for quite a while, I'll have to let you know if and when we will need a sitter" cause it's the truth! I'm sure you won't be needing a sitter for a while cause you will want baby to be with you since he'll be so itty bitty and brand new

That's what I'm thinking. The whole thing makes me super nervous. I was over there talking to her last week and she got up and almost fell down because she was dizzy. Like lady what if you were holding my newborn?! I have no problem taking him to see her when I'm there for short periods of time but I know she's going to be like oh go take a nap or something. Like hell I could sleep like that lol. I'd probably feel more comfortable if he was like 2 or something and didn't need constant looking after. I just feel bad and don't want to be the bad guy. @emkasting

I had the same issue with my neighbor, she has several brain tumors, eyes crossed& legally blind she can't even drive because her sight is so bad. She's always barging into my home and trying to touch my son. On top of it she never wears a bra and is a heavier set woman. She doesn't seem very clean to me either. To her honest I don't think she is all there either. She always asks to baby sit and I just can't. She was coming over almost every day asking to hold him and stuff, and she was like you always have excuses finally I told her I don't like anyone touching him. I'm a first time mom and it is just nerve wracking for me. And since then she hasn't asked she has asked to look at him a couple times but she just peeps her head in now

Good thinking. I'm definitely not one of those people to push my child off on someone else. He will be with me 24/7 where ever I go, he will go. She even had to miss my shower because she passed out and turns out it was a blockage in her heart and had to get surgery. @emkasting

Well maybe if you're comfortable with inviting her over you could ask her to "watch him" while you are cooking or maybe doing a few things around the apartment? That way she feels like she's helping but you're also able to keep an eye on her and your baby?

Thankfully this lady can't climb my stairs @rennysmommy 😂😂😂 But I have to walk past her door to get to mine. Especially when he's brand new I don't want anyone touching him. People at my work even expect me to bring him in after he's born. I'm like well I'll see you all when he's 2 months old. lol

That would be a great idea and I'd be ok with that but I live upstairs and she can't climb the stairs :/ @canaryv

I wouldn't let her watch him but I would take your baby to see her, be with her and let her hold him. and just tell her you're there for a visit, and when your baby cues tell you gotta get going and feed him

@jacesterlingsmommy, you're lucky lol I would just be honest with her that's the only way she's gonna stop asking

Right, that would be very scary to think that she could get dizzy and fall down while holding your baby. When the time comes and he's older and if she asks when you want to leave him with her, at the point just be honest. Tell her that you so appreciate the offer but you're just not comfortable leaving him with anyone other than your own mother or something like that. That way you don't necessarily have to bring up her health or anything :). Definitely don't feel bad though! I would absolutely be feeling the same way

Exactly @lilbabyboy16 people at my work were going to have a shower for me then they decided to do it after he's born so they can hold him. Well that won't be for a while.
@emkasting I'm a major homebody as it is and I don't like leaving home anyway. I really don't even like company lol. I just have a feeling people are going to come out of the woodwork and want to come over and it's like well I haven't seen or heard from you in months. Go away. lol
