Random question .. I know there are some younger ladies on here and I'm too old to remember .. So my daughter is 13 and started her period for the first time two weeks ago it was a regular cycle 7 days med flow .. She stopped for three days and it came back like a mother !!! She's passing clots the size of my fist and is soaking a pad an hour .. I thought she was a bit dramatic crying all day saykng her vagina hurt but omg now I know why .. Something that hug coming out of a tiny girl😳 anyway I was very regular and never had that kind of issue and I know it's common to be irregular but it doesn't seem normal to ass that kind of clot or soak a pad like that.. Am I wrong ? I'm concerned about low iron at this point ...
I used to have very heavy and painful periods. I passed clots as well but the rule of thumb is that if the clot is bigger than the size of a quarter then take her in because it's not common. Could be nothing, better safe than sorry though. My step mom started doing that exact same thing and she ended up having a full hysterectomy. So she always told us to tell her if we started passing large clots. Doubtful your daughter will need anything that drastic though. Good luck mama ❤️
@10yearslater0205 I ended up losing one ovary at the delivery of my first child because of it. I went so long not being diagnosed. Her Dr can schedule an ultrasound to look. My daughter has what is called precocious puberty and has had a period since 7 yrs old. Shes now almost 10 so I'm scheduling her one as well to make sure she doesn't have what I have, just to be safe. Thankfully her periods are pretty normal.
I'd have her checked out. I did that at a young age and found out I had a cyst in my ovary, pcos and endometriosis. It definitely needs to be checked out.
I was 13 and a 6 grader with my period, and I had the most horrible periods ever!! They lasted a week ! And the cramps were so bad I had to go home from school, my flow was heavy and I did pass clots as well! I've been anemic my whole life maybe it's because of that, but my period controlled itself after I started having sex ( thank god ). I seriously suffered so much back than! I know what she's going through 😰
Thanks everyone .. Yeah I really don't want her on bc at this age at all.. But blood clots that large worry me ...
@10yearslater0205, wow clots the size of your fist is worry some! Specially her first time around. Mine were also very heavy and I also have endometriosis but I never remember passing clots that huge. I was 12 when I got mine and it was also a 7 day flow. I wouldn't say she's low iron unless you find her super tired and sleeping all the time not as active even when she's not on her days and doesn't function right through out the day. I'm allergic to iron which is very rare and I can't take it but I am able to manage a good diet to keep my iron tank up. I would say it's normal for her to have a heavy flow just the clots that huge concern me.
I have endometriosis and that sounds about like how mine first started out. might be something to check into when you do go to the Dr. I hope she gets to feeling better
and if they suggest birth control to regulate it say hell no that depo shot messed my legs up my bones are not the same @10yearslater0205
Call her doctor sometimes they can help with them if she is crying because she's in that much pain then you might want to have her looked at, I had a friend who had to go the doctor for the same reason and they tried a couple of thing out to see which one help her the best.. Hope this helps. @10yearslater0205
call her doctor they might prescribe her meds to help with the pain but mines was that bad my mom would have to keep me out of school s couple days and put a heating pad on my stomach some cycles are really that crucial @10yearslater0205
I also have had very heavy period every since! but they got regular and only lasted 5 days.
I was irregular when I first started at 13 my doctor told me and my mom it was just my body trying to figure everything out. But I'm not sure if there can be other causes!
I was gonna do that today ... I was just curious if anyone was like this
She could have menorrhagia. Or it could just be her body getting adjusted to starting a menstrual cycle. Either way I'd have her get checked out by a gynecologist.
