a little advice to anyone thinking about getting a puppy while pregnant or trying to conceive... do yourself a favor.... leave that thing where it is. once you have a kid.. it's really hard to deal with a dog as well. I have 2 dogs, a 20 MO old and am about to be 34 weeks pregnant.. the dogs are harder to deal with than the toddler! they have become more defiant than she has. I let them out to use the bathroom and they disappear for hours at the time. ... they know not to go out of the yard... or well, they did. they about 2 seconds away from becoming outside dogs.

@ashgreen13617, oh honey if I was getting ill... you'd know it :) I was explaining why she doesn't "help". I'm well aware what she does and doesn't understand and that she isn't going to get it right off the bat. we have been working on it since she turned 1 in august. she's just not interested in it. how you got me getting ill out of that I don't know nor do I rightfully care.

@ashgreen13617, she's a toddler but not old enough to help. I've tried. she pours the entire bowl in the floor everytime. or tries to eat the dog food or throws it all over the house. she's not even 2 yet so she really doesn't get the concept.

@jennatess, it makes me the worse person in the world to them. they could take them back but they just don't want to. I pretty much rescued them before I was married or even thought of kids. they were both strays. One was actually playing in traffic in the middle of town. it's just been a really bad day. everytime I let them out they just completely disappear and we live in the middle of no where on a dirt road so I have no clue where there even is for them to go. it just makes me so angry. we have lived there two years. .. and they literally started doing that last week. now they do it every single day... every single time.. and it doesn't matter if I close the door for 5 seconds and go right back to call them... gone. I guess I'll have to start using cables for them to go potty because I can't leave my not even 2 year old in the house for them to go with me walking them on a leash and I'm too big to carry her 26 lb butt plus walk them. around here no one wants dogs that aren't puppies so like I said... stuck is exactly what I am with them lol

@nicemmcha2015, I understand. How do your grandma and mom feel about finding them a new home, possible without children?

dogs can be hard with a toddler but teach your toddler to help. I taught my son early to help me feed the dogs we have two mutts also a Chihuahua mix and a golden retriever cocker spaniel mix. my dogs are great with my son very protective of him and he is almost three now and will feed and water them for me when I tell him to and helps me take them outside to pee. I agree some days are very hard but they are family for us.

@jennatess, I'm very well aware. the only reason I've kept them is to keep them from being treated badly. we don't abuse them or neglect them in anyway. my daughter loves them but they are mean towards her and I guess that's where the dislike originally came from. they get fed and given attention. they are happy here but I'm just not so happy with how they behave. having to call them for hours on end to come back is ridiculous. I can't afford to have to hunt down dogs if I go into labor or if something happens to my daughter's and we need to leave right then. I've had them 3 years and it's just got to the point where they do this. idk how to fix it. if they'd listen there wouldn't be an issue at all.

The pure hatred towards them is not good. You need to find a loving home for them who has the time for them. But, please, find them a home that won't relocate them again. I've volunteered in 3 shelters, and have learned that animals suffer from depression if they are rehomed a lot. You can't change the past - how your grandmother and grandma made them to favor them over you - but you can change the future. The negative feelings towards them is no good.

They were before I had a toddler. but when you have babies some breeds become defiant and act out just like kids. We have mutts. A pure bred dog may not be so bad. it doesn't help that my mother and grandmother made them to favor them over me so anything I say is pointless. if they were mine and had been mine the entire time it may be different. but I hate these damn dogs with a passion. I wish to god they'd take them back. the only reason I still have them is because they don't take to other people so I'm pretty stuck with them.

I disagree. I have a dog, and keep my mothers two dogs as well most weeks because she travels for work. All three dogs are very easy, and well behaved. But, I also pay good money for a trainer for mine. My mothers dogs just happen to be good. Personally, I think if you have the patience, then a dog can be a blessing.
