it's really not recommended. some old fashioned doctors say to do it still but it is a choking habit, and it's empty calories so instead of getting nutrients that he would need by drinking formula he isn't getting enough nutrients because his body works harder to digest the cereal. it's kind of like eating celery, it has no nutritional value so you actually burn calories eating it. if you were to feed him only cereal and nothing else his body would go into starvation mode because there's nothing in it for his body to use (but obviously you wouldn't do that, I was just giving an example to help explain what I meant)
talk to your doctor about prescribing him zantac or prilosec for his reflux.
I started my baby a little after 2
Months because she was going through formula like crazy!!!! I added just a tiny bit and kept her formula amount the same. And it kept her fuller longer. I was put on it at 3 weeks. And I turned out fine (I think) haha
Wirh my son I was told to not that as it is a choking hazard they told me to wait until like 3-4 months and spoon feed it to him if I really wanted to give it to him. My daughter has acid reflux and my dr never once recommended I put cereal in her bottle. We switched formulas though and she does amazing with it. I would talk to your dr.
I see doctors recommending it to help with reflux lately. idk what changed doctors minds. but its a choking hazard is the reason it shouldn't be put in a bottle plus its empty calories so baby isn't getting a lot of the calories he needs. now with that being said I have done it , iv gave my baby rice in his bottle before. with reflux try burping him often during feedings. if you do decide to give him rice in his milk try a very little at a time. and recline him in your arms while feeding him and I wouldn't recommend giving it to him at night.
