So my baby was born 4 days ago and and she likes to latch on strong which is good but her lips and mouth are small and my areola and nipples are big. I feel like she'll tug or can't open her mouth enough to make feeding her hurt less. Plus she'll flatten and extend my nipples while she's eating... Some advice would be great. #SoreNipples #Breastfeeding #Latch
I like to put coconut oil on them or the medela nipple cream, you don't have wash either one off before nursing again. good luck and I hope you get relief :)
@jaeparm, I appreciate that. when they monitored her latch and feeding frequency they said she was awesome. So is there something I can do soothe my nipples and keep them from chapping?
my daughter is the same way, the lactation consultant I spoke to told me that as she grows it'll get better and as long as it's not extremely painful for me than there's nothing to worry about. she said it takes time and is a learning process for mom and baby.

awwww
does the hospital offer lactation support after you leave? Most hospitals you can call and get support, or your local wic office. You can even see if there's a la leche league nearby.
@arivera64, I am running her face with my nipple but I feel like she has insane vacuum suction. I saw a lactation consultant and other staff while I was at the hospital but the soreness and sensitivity have become a problem. 😕

The whole areola doesn't have to go in the mouth. The nipples are supposed to sort of flatten and be pulled out from nursing.
Are you lightly rubbing your nipple over her mouth to encourage her to open wide before letting her latch?
