My MIL doesn't want me working right now being pregnant and all, and when I do she's voiced not wanting me to work in factory work or a nursing home. I'd be willing to work just about any job for my family, so she needs to stop controlling. I live with her right now until me and fiance can afford a place, and while I'm here she needs to learn to not tell me how to live my life. She's even told me to hold off on baby shopping till the baby shower next month, like for the crib decor and all in case someone buys me something for it! I feel like I'm losing my voice.

I understand the frustration. And its worse because you feel you can't say no because you live in the same house. Just hang in there. I always just smiled, nodded, and did my own thing anyway. Seemed to work just fine. ;)

In my experience the best way to deal with a family member, or loved one trying to tell you what to do is to set clear boundaries, but in a nice, calm way. Like, "I appreciate your advice, I will think about it.".That way you are validating their input, but making it clear the final say is up to you, without being confrontational.
