You should have 6 weeks after birth if you deliver naturally 8 weeks for cesarean.

i was go to school that has to give maternity leave and they didn't want me taking maternity leave until I actually have the baby I stopped going already and I'm 36 weeks I'll just have to finish the semester after my baby is born I'm toooooo pregnant to get up every morning at 5 am

@mommagotbump16, right but the afforable care act (often referred to as Obamacare) changed FMLA from 6/8 to 12 unpaid. the requirements are that the company has over 50 employees and that you've worked there 12 months prior to leave.

@amanda_marcozzi, actually it had always been 12 weeks unpaid. I remember at work during orientation HR talked about it (this was 6 years ago). If only they had required companies to offer a paid leave option...oh well :(

Check into FMLA you get 6/8 PAID and then either 6/4 weeks unpaid depending on how baby was born. Your doctor won't even clear you to go back to work until you're atleast 6 weeks pp

@mommyx2g, I believe my job does 6 weeks paid that's why I tried to split it up so I can rest before the baby is born

FMLA is not paid, at all. @mommyx2g Any paid leave is up to your company. I do know that they are supposed to let you be paid out your sick and vacation time if you don't have like a short term disability policy, etc. So if your company does paid leave, make sure and ask if you can get paid vacation/sick time that's already built up @armanimommy711 that may help a bit
