I moved into an apartment that had a bed bug problem and it took us until recently to figure out that's what it was. I'm 32 weeks pregnant with little disposable income but I cannot fathom bringing home our little boy to an apartment with bed bugs. does anybody know how to help?

bed bugs can be treated for cheap. its like gettin rid of nits and lice. wash everything in hot water, spray everything down with lysol or whatever cleaner and wipe it down, vacuum matress couches carpet and be sure to get into the folds creases and corners really good cuz those are the main places they like to hide

in Tennessee on a standard apartment lease the have whats called a bed bug addendum that u and the company are suppose to sign.it pretty much says u both agree that there are no bed bugs at the lease start date. read ur lease again carefully @marimbarose

@marimbarose, most complexes have a special pest control and they spray regularly. However. Bed bugs are extremely "contagious". They multiply quickly, and are a PAIN to get rid of. I'd call the land lord and tell them that they were there when you moved it. Tell them you demand help..they will want to fix it before it spreads. And it definitely will.

@jennatess, I'm unsure if it's truly legal here as these apartments are privately owned and run. I actually really like the property and our LL but we must do something about the bugs. from what I read online to get a professional in here could cost $1000+.

@marimbarose, oh man, yeah. That is illegal here in California. Pest control is ALWAYS on the landlord/property management. You definitely need to get it sprayed though. Those little bites will hurt a newborn baby. Plus, at the first couple doctors visit they will be looking rashes and stuff like that.

@jennatess, we are renting but the first page of the lease says that pest control is our problem. I should have suspected something when the previous tenant left a mattress here

Do you live in a complex? Or do you rent? If you rent, you can fight to get the problem fixed or to break your lease.
