oooooook. I need some support or words of encouragement. I recently had my midway ultrasound at 19 weeks (last week). My doctor's office called me and told me that they didn't get good enough views of the spine and needed to schedule another one..I was like, ok..but everything is fine? And the woman said "Oh yes!" Then, a few days later, the midwife from my doctor's office called & told me that they saw something called an "echogenic intracardiac focus" in my baby's heart...which is essentially a white dot in the picture. It is associated with a small percent increased risk of chromosomal abnormalities like Down's Syndrome. Hearing all of these words FREAKED ME THE F OUT. My bf and I cried..we went in and tried to get a better understanding, and the midwife was like "No! Your baby is 99% perfectly healthy we just want to do blood test to be SURE." So I got the maternity 21 blood test and another ultrasounds today. Now we wait. The more I look online, the better I feel, but it's still really scary. Has anyone else gone through this?
On a positive note, the girl who did our ultrasound today was soooo nice and even switched on the 3D which she isn't supposed to do lol. Our baby boy was sucking his thumb! But, the white dot was still there. (Which is to be expected). Supposedly they mostly disappear on their own during the third trimester.
My daughter as well has an echogenic focus and she is just fine. It's just a calcium deposit. As long as yiur@bloodwork came back fine all is wel!!
that's okay, the ultrasound tech said the same to me, but my blood work c came out perfect
@sammiesteeez, don't let them scare u, it is a fancy term for extra calcium and 1 in ten babies have it and 1 and 20 are born with it and out grow it by 5
Just wanted to comment.. I was told the same thing today..I got so scared I cried in the car 😔..Reading these comments knowing others have been through the same comforts me 😀
