Reaching out... 💙

First time mom here, 33w2d pregnant with our baby boy. Original due date: May 30th.

It's 3am of day two in the hospital for me, baby and fiancé. We were sent here in an emergency after a routine 33-week sonogram. A maternal fetal specialist came in during the scan to tell us that he the placenta isn't functioning at its best to deliver blood and nutrients to baby and that he is under a growth restriction- only barely 3lbs at this point. She ordered us to go to the hospital immediately and, quote, "you are not leaving until baby is born". She was very abrupt but I guess in this case that's what is necessary.

Little bit of a back story: We were told at 19 weeks that there was chance of low birth weight due to a soft marker in a protein they found in some blood work at that point. They classified us as high risk but insisted there was no need to worry or do anything differently. We trusted our doctors and remained positive over he course of the following weeks. Baby began to move regularly and non-stop and we passed all other tests and check-ups with flying colors. Several doctors in our practice told us: "Baby is perfect and healthy"... "Right on target".

So, of course this news so many weeks later sent us into severe shock, especially me, and my BP right through the roof. Fiancé is my rock and kept so, so calm for both of us even though our world came to a crashing halt. By the time I got to our hospital (which is only 5 minutes up the road from where we were) my BP was at 194/87. They immediately started running tests for preeclampsia. (It has since stablized but is still rather high). They are however not as concerned about his weight and seem optimistic about everything. He is healthy in that he is moving around like a little firecracker, day and night, but we are concerned with his lung function. I've had two steroid shots over the course of the last two days. Around 6pm yesterday a group of doctors entered our hospital room to deliver the news that after my 24-hour urine collection analysis lab results came back they are showing that I am, beyond any shadow of doubt, severely preeclamptic. No walking allowed unless assisted to the bathroom and or to my daily sonograms. At this point I'm told I will need to deliver within the next six days, or as of my 34 week mark which is Monday.

I can barely sleep because my mind just keeps running. My fiancé has been the most amazing, loving, positive-thinking and supportive man, just as he always has been in every situation for all of our time together, but this time is so taxing on both of us as an expectant growing family. I know I need to stay strong for all of us, but I'm running out of juice here. I'm not an easily scared person, but this time... I've met my match.

Any advice or words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated. 💙

Thank you so much.

Hun it's alright. I have a similar story to yours except about the placenta part. I kept having to go to the doctor to check up on my blood pressure cause it got super high when I hit the 7th month Mark and I was going back and forth for failed nsts also. they would send me to the hospital and there the nsts would be normal. but my blood pressure this last time got to 190/100 and just would not go down so my maternity doctor sent me to the hospital and there the doctor recommended I get transferred to a better hospital that could care for premature babies if they decided to deliver early. I was diagnosed there with worsened preeclampsia, after every lab they done on me my liver enzymes was going higher and higher, and the doctor came in and told me I'll be delivering my son earlier than expected. she was like he is better on the outside than the inside. I'm only 23 and this is my first child so I was so scared like I know you are. I went in the hospital at 33 weeks and 3 days. I planned to have him natural. They done everything from cervidel, to disolving pill, to the balloon all to ripen me. None of it really worked cause my body just wasn't ready to have him yet. I ended up dialating to 2 cm so they started me on pitocin and there after a couple hours it begin to make my babies heart rate drop so they came in and gave me the scary news of me not being able to deliver him natural and having to get a csection cause his heart rate is dropping and I remember her telling me you got to have him now. so I ended up being rushed to have the emergency csection. I was so scared. All I could think about was my baby surviving with him being so little or even me surviving But I was mainly worried about him. But let me tell you something, faith goes a long way!!! All I begin to do was pray to God that he'd take care of my little boy. and me. and guess what he did. I gave birth to a beautiful 4 lb 6 oz baby boy. I couldn't see him for 24 hours. It was the hardest thing to go from having him in my belly feeling him move to giving birth and seeing him to go back to my room and not see him or hold him for a whole day. I finally got to be wheeled down to the nicu the next day and girl ima tell you it is so hard to see your little baby in the nicu with all the ivs and feeding tubes but you got to know the nicu people are gonna take good care of your baby. That's their job. My little boy had to be put on a cpap for his breathing cause he was breathing too hard and fast but came off the next day, came off his ivs 4 days later and began eating on his own so he came off his feeding tube on day 7. Gained the right amount of weight by day 11 and I brought him home. I had him at exactly 34 weeks. He is a perfect almost 2 month old now weighing in at a whopping 9 lbs 10 oz. Man he has an appetite lol!.. He came such a long way. and I'm so thankful to God... I'm telling you FAITH GOES A LONG WAY!! Just pray to God honey. Everything will be ok!! Leave it all to God and ask him to help reassure you and calm you. I know everything will be ok. You'll have a good delivery and your babies lungs are more matured now that you got the steroid shots. I had to get the same thing. my little boy came out screaming he had some good lungs so it worked lol. So don't even worry about his lungs. He's ok!... I'm praying for you and your baby. God will keep yall safe and you'll deliver a healthy little baby in a few days. You'll finally see that little face and those tiny hands and feet that's been kicking you all this time :) I wish you all the best. and congratulations!!!! :)
