how long does your breast milk come in after having baby? this colostrum stuff is barely coming in…

It usually takes between 3 to 5 days, in the meantime colostrum is very high in nutrients and all baby needs! I don't know what kind of lactation consultant would tell you to pump, you should be latching the baby to the breast on demand, which is every 1 to 3 hours usually. This is because when the baby latches hormones are released and your milk will come in faster, and if you bottle feed this early there's a high chance of your baby getting nipple confusion and not accepting the breast. This is all fine if you're planning on pumping only, but it is very hard to keep your supply up with pumping for this reason: no pump EVER works as well as the baby does at emptying the breasts, and because your breasts produce MORE the more that is removed (supply by demand), if your breasts aren't emptied properly by the pump (which it isn't, you could get 2oz from pumping but the baby could get 6oz easily) your supply will not be able to keep up with the baby's needs. Sorry if this is all confusing lol...one more thing, as a warning your breasts will become hard and full and may hurt and leak when your milk comes in, this is called emgorgement, and it's normal! Make sure to feed baby often to keep the engorgement down and you comfortable, if baby can't keep up pump or hand express enough to soften the breast for comfort between feedings. Anytime! I should have mentioned also when you feed baby, latch on one breast and let baby choose to unlatch when they are done, then offer the other breast. If they don't take it that's fine, it just means they got enough from the first breast. Next feeding start with the breast you ended with, and offer the other when baby is done. This ensures the baby is not only emptying the breast fully, but also choosing how much they need to eat and allowing them to get to the fattier milk in the "back" so to speak lol congratulations on your new lil one, mama!!! ..im just confused ..i dont have ANY milk yet tho and very little colostrum shes latching but not feeding so we had to use formula because she wasnt getting fed like she needed ..i think im gonna just cut the bottles out and start back to breastfeeding until she gets it and pray shes getting food ..idk ..im lost ..@hellosweetie,
