How long should it take for my milk to come in? It has been 4 days and I still don't have milk. I also haven't been producing enough so we are having to supplement with formula. 😭😭
I used the pump at the hospital some. After pumping for 15-20 minutes when I pulled it off there was only a drop on my nipples. I've just gotten my pump so now that I'm at home I can start really using it. @mygiftof2016
@mommabird, that's the thing though. He never acted hungry, that's why we went all day before discovering something was wrong. He went all day without a dirty diaper and shortly after giving him about a half an ounce of formula he started using the bathroom again. They said the lactation consultant will be back tomorrow so I am going to try and see her then.
Yeah I would go see a lactation consultant. Don't rely on what nurses say. Babies act like they are hungry all the time for the first few weeks and normally it's just because they want to suckle for comfort. Do what you feel is right for him of course, but know there are some really helpful people out there that can give you more info so you feel good about whatever decision you have to make.
@mommabird, I have been breast feeding first. I can usually get him to nurse for 15-20 minutes on each side. Then if he is still acting hungry we give formula. The first day all we did was breast feed and he was not getting enough so the nurses had me start supplementing.
Milk is still coming in within the first week or so. Put babe to boob before you supplement if you must do it so that your body still gets the feed response. It's totally normal to not have full milk yet and baby will be fine without adding anything, most of the time, for the first week.
