Just looking for opinions from you ladies, about bottle making! I'm thinking first thing in the morning boiling the kettle and filling the bottles with 3oz of water, leaving them to cool then popping them in the fridge and adding the formula when needed then using the bottle warmer to heat up. Is this okay? Just I don't want to drive myself insane with making a bottle up every time it's needed..

That could work, and it wouldn't be too hot either!

I juat had a thought. If you fill them up in the morning with half the amount you will need and then when you need them, boil the kettle and add the other half from the kettle...that's how the prep machine does it.

Tommee Tippee perfect prep machine is brilliant and means you don't have to make feeds up in advance. It takes 2 minutes to make a bottle and it's already at feeding temperature. Definitely worth the money. Hope this helps x

@tuftyturtle, yeah, I agree! If we're all over dramatic and cushion our babies from all germs they'll never build and immune system x

they tell you not to make them in advance due to bacteria etc. I make mine when needed and put it in a bowl of cold water to get them ready sooner. xx

This might come across worse than it it but I think whatever you do from the beginning is what your baby and it's stomach will be used to! but all babies react differently to things!x

@sophiegreen @tuftyturtle thank you girls. Will see how baby is! Will leave water to cool on the counter, pop in the fridge then heat then add formula. See how that works! Xx

I make the bottles fresh because if the water is under 70 degrees when the bottle is made there's loads of bacteria in the formula , I tried making them up like this and it made Seth Ill for a few days xx

If you put boiled water into a sterile bottle there isn't any bacteria to grow 😀 only if the formula is added. Formula instructions say to use water that has cooled after 30 minutes not boiling x

@angie87, exactly! As long as baby is getting fed and aren't unwell after feeds then that's all that matters! As long as the bottles are clean and sterile as well! It's so daunting isn't it? I have just over a week and I'm starting to flap 😂😂😂 xx

@beccastirlingx, haha there's so much to learn isn't there?! 🙈 I think loads of people would do it differently and their babies are fine as long as baby isn't feeling unwell after feeds! I'm still pretty clueless though I'm hoping the 'natural instinct ' will kick in and I'll know what to do when baby is here 😂😕 xx

@angie87, she said just make them up when needed but that's just making everything so much more difficult! I don't know whether to heat the water then add the formula or add the formula to the boiled water then cool it in the fridge then re heat.. Ahhh xx

@beccastirlingx, I think probably loads of people do it this way, however at my antenatal class midwife spoke about boiling water needing to be added to the formula as its the formula that has bacteria in it and needs to be sterilised. She also said when the water cools it gives bacteria a chance to regrow so should be done there and then. I'm sure loads of people don't do this though but may be worth asking your MW to see what she would recommend? Xx

sounds fine to me although i would say reheating the water frist then add the formula as the heat will help the formula dissolve xxx

I feel the bottles with the amount that I need each morning, then when I need them heat them in the microwave (about 5 secs per ounce) add the formula. done this with both my children.

@jodie62, it's what my mum did also, but she had to stop with me as my bottles soon had to be made on demand as I was prescribed formula as the shelf stuff just wasn't for me and made me really ill and had extreme colic! 😂 poor mum! Xx

Maybe heat the water first then add formula? But if it's already been boiled it should be fine xx@beccastirlingx

@courtniegeexo, that's what my mum did! But apparently the formula carries bacteria that has to be killed off by boiling water? But if the water is sterile from being boiled and then being heated again I don't see the problem?! Then I'd do the same at night with maybe 3 bottles just to see how he will be! God, all this hassle with milk 😂 xx
