so anybody have any tips on how to introduce the idea of a newborn coming home? we have 2 big dogs and they love and are use to my toddler but they never seen or heard a newborn
i would let the dogs sniff one blanket that you have for the baby then borrow a baby doll from someone or buy one which ever then play newborn cries on your cellphone underneath the baby doll while it is wrapped in one of your baby's blankets and let the dogs see the "baby" and see how they react if they dont like it and start jumping i would keep the dogs in another room when you come home with the baby and put the baby its crib and let the dogs see you and smell you first then introduce baby but hold them by their collars
@therockamom, I was thinking of letting them sniff the blanket and car seat
I'm 38 weeks today, so we still have time. just didn't hit us until today that we need a plan.
Baby's r us actually has free classes and they have one called introducing dog and baby I was thinking about going to it because I also have a big dog!
Play YouTube videos of babies crying so they get used to the sound. Also if you plan to walk your dogs with the stroller, walk the dogs for a few weeks before the baby comes with the empty stroller (I know it looks crazy) so they get used to it. It will train them with the stroller as an obstacle, train them not to pull and they won't be freaked out the first time they walk with one when there's a baby in it! There are lots of blog posts and pinterest articles about getting dogs ready for babies.
