so me and the the kids father started working waffle house together last week. it's literally only been 2 weeks and they love him so much that they're about to train him to be a manager already (he's currently a cook). I'm so damn proud of him, but is it wrong that I'm jealous? I've been working since I was 16 (I'm 21 now) and out off all the jobs I've had, I've never been able to advance forward to the higher position I wanted. I'm on job number 10 I think. I don't know.. I just wish my hard work would pay off. but hey, at least now he can better provide for the kids

Everyone has a path their own and we may feel more "qualified" and feel like we take the job more seriously than someone else and question why they get offered the better position but it's not our place to question. There is something uniquely to him that allows for him to outshine others even if he isn't qualified on paper or even with experience. Like I just got a promotion over a colleague who is just as knowledgable if not more, who takes the time out to send every little update to the team every time one goes out, who has worked special projects more than me etc. but I got the job and was upset that people automatically assumed I got the position because she turned it down! No it was because the manager may have liked my personality better, because years ago I worked under the manager, because I have just as much knowledge and my personality goes over well with the members which has been demonstrated, because I am more lets get to the point and find a solution and she is more lets dissect every part of it and create more work and take more time which is not always what a client is looking for they want fast results to issues they want a resolution in a day or two not a week. So while he may do it just to do it he does it well! Lol and you being in business management with what you learn you may end up the general manager of a restaurant or you may own your own so don't worry too much about it at least you still benefit took me ten years to finish my degree being a young single mom and applying for positions I felt more qualified to have but when I got my first promotion after five years with the company I knew it was for me I wasn't nervous in the interview my answers flowed so naturally unlike my other interviews. It was FOR ME it didn't matter about all the rejections in the past. What's for you will be yours and it may take you two years where it took your bd two weeks but it will be for you so keep up the good work!!!!

@ginag918, I think it's more of the fact that I'm actually in school for business management and he's just doing it to do it. I try so hard in everything I do and I'll never understand how he can turn things around this easy after all the things he's done. I'm just tired at this point

I think you just need to think about what your ideal career is then make a plan to get into that field of it means more school then take a class or two when you can, I am just finishing my bachelors and I lucked up on a great paying job at 19 and then the job I have now in insurance which I had always thought about but never pursued it just happened so for some people things just happen and for others you have to work a little harder, I am looking to advance as well I have advanced in my career to make more money but I am not in the field I truly want to be in but with obtaining my degree and the licenses that I have it will afford me a better chance and the career I want to be in which is still insurance but claims is actually a pay cut to start but o would rather work in a field I am passionate about. So if hospitality/food service is your field maybe take a bar tending class, or culinary classes. When I was younger I wanted to be in hospitality management so I started at Le cordon Bleu in their hostility litty program I liked it but then the good paying job came along and having a new kid I had to follow the money. You never know what your man may have done to put himself in a position to get such an opportunity some people are just natural born leaders and it is evident in all who interact with that person, me I am a learned leader it took time for me to learn what leadership meant and entailed and I had to learn how to lead without coming off as annoying and a know it all! Pick his brain you may find out something about him you never knew that has helped him

I think it's understandable to be jealous but I worked at waffle house for over a year and you couldn't pay me enough to be a manager. it seems way too stressful.
