random question: if one parent dies does the child automatically go to the other parent?

if it's the mother that dies yes if it's the father the mother already has the child technically. But both parents can have in a will who they want to have the child

so like I have joint custody with my sons father and I only get my son every other weekend if he died would my son go to me? lol @hermommy

yes, UNLESS the father has a will stating otherwise and has it legally notarized
