Has anyone on here had a baby that swallowed amniotic fluid during birth and had to stay in NICU?
My baby was born at 36 weeks due to dilating and contractions. I had a c section. He swallowed some fluid and has some in his lungs. Today is his 5th day in nicu and everyday he progresses like he should.
I was just wondering how many days someone else's baby had to stay due to the same cause??

Me! My child swallowed it due to being born to quick. Him swallowing the fluid made him get pneumonia so he ended up staying a week in the nicu on antibiotics and some days on oxygen

My daughter did but she didn't have to go to the nicu

each baby is going to be completely different.. I work in a nicu and from experience working there it can be anywhere from a few hours to a couple weeks depending on the baby, and the other standards the baby has to meet to be discharged

My baby was in there for a week. After antibiotics they have to be watched and stay for at least 24 hours after they're off of all meds and drips.

I was just wondering on average how many days most babies stay. He was done with antibiotics 2 days ago. But the doctor told me 3 days ago he would be in there about 10 days. I haven't asked anymore because I don't want the doctor to think I'm rushing it bc I'm not I want my baby 100% better ! I'm just anxious lol
