is it normal for me to get upset that my son cries when I'm trying to breastfeed? this is the first time we're trying it on the actual breast and he cries like crazy everytime. and it upsets me.. like.. what am I doing wrong? he's been a NICU patient for a full week and they've been in between feeding him my breast milk via bottle bc I'm pumping and then they've been giving him similac formula as well...he won't take it from ME.. but he will take the milk from a bottle... but I feel like an absolute failure with breastfeeding

He's not use to your nipples @xbbycolletto

1. tell them NO MORE FORMULA!!! that in itself could ruin the journey 2. he's finding your nipple and trying to make it work for him, it's new to him 3. ask the hospital if they pace fed him the bottles bc if they did then it mimics breastfeeding so it's easy for mom to give the boob, if not then he may have developed a bottle preference which is common for nicu babies 4. have him checked for a lip tie and tongue tie

Didn't feel like a failure!! It's so tough! You may want to keep offering the boob first before bottle of milk or formula, and maybe get slow flow nipples for the bottles. Some babies don't like having to work to draw out the milk from your breast and that's why they like bottles better b

it's very rough at first... like I cried for a week straight bc everything hurt or was too big or Killian wouldn't latch.. but do a lot of skin to skin and try doing the "flip nip" trick which is nipple to nose, to top lip, and slide it in the mouth.. It should form a vacuum. @xbbycolletto
