It depends. Mine did it for a dating scan because I didn't have a cycle in between my previous miscarriage and my current pregnancy. He just wanted to see how far along I was. It also depends on your insurance, because a lot of insurances will only cover two scans per pregnancy, so some doctors don't want to waste those early on in the pregnancy. But I'm sure the doctor will do one if you insist on it!

They may do a transvaginal to make sure the pregnant is in your uterus and that there's a heartbeat and to measure

Depends on your Dr & insurance. My first pregnancy I didn't, my second I had one at 12 weeks to determine a due date because I have irregular periods.
